W115 E-Class Sedan

The W115 was the replacement for the W110 Fintail. The W115 was produced inbetween 1968-1976. A total of 1,852,008 units were produced. This model was extremely popular for it's fresh new looks and state-of-the-art technology.
The exterior was fresh looking. At that time, it looked extremely modern and stylish. The grille expanded sideways. Also, a long, one-piece headlamp is now used. The rear now shows signs of the later generations of E-Class vehicles. The classic curves are eliminated and replaced by elegant, angular lines. Chrome is kept thin and elegant. Flow of the exterior is superb.
The interior again shows change. Wood trim is now thinner and more elegant. Leather is now pleated and edged in piping. Chrome elements used are no longer as dramatical as before. It was modern and elegant.
Drivetrain again improved. More variety of engines, increased displacement and increased popularity of diesel engines. Also, Direct Injection is first introduced. This chart should help you understand the classification better.

The technological improvements in the W115 are great. However, in the years to come, the E-Class will feature even more technological improvements. The next generation is the W123 E-Class Sedan.
