W110 E-Class Sedan

The W110 was the replacement for the W120/W121 "Ponton" series. Production was from 1961-1968. The W110 was extensively tested for occupant safety. This made the W110 very ahead of it's time.
Exterior styling changed extensively. The body now featured a more unibody structure. Also, little fins were added to the rear trunk. This was how it got the name of Fintail. More flow and elegance was added to the overall appearance of the vehicle.
The interior also showed news signs of elegance. Luxury was still Mercedes-Benz quality. It possessed all the wood trim, leather and chrome to provide maximum comfort. New features such as an audio system was introduced.
The drivetrain of the W110 was more advanced than the previous models. The engine increased in displacement. Also, more horsepower was gained. A larger selection of engines was now available. This chart should help you understand the classification better.

190D 1.9Litre Inline-4 Diesel
200D 2Litre Inline-4 Diesel
190 1.9Litre Inline-4
200 2Litre Inline-4
230 2.3Litre Inline-6

The W110 Fintail earned it's position in the developement of automobiles and also made it's mark in history. It would then be replaced by the W115 E-Class Sedan. Another technological marvel.
