W124 E-Class Sedan

The W124 was produced inbetween 1985-1995. This was the first vehicle to be designated "E-Class".
The W124 was a huge step from it's predecessor, the W123. The W124's design is extremely similar to the W140 S-Class sedan. In fact, only the dimensions have been slimmed down. The W124 was sleek and elegant. The W124 has an incredible low coefficient of drag of 0.28. It's smooth streamlined body allows for low noise and lower fuel consumption. A cool feature is the single windshield wiper. The wiper forms half of an arc. When it reaches the top, the wiper moves down and then completes the arc. The result is a squished semi-circle.
The W124 is pure luxury. Everywhere, the interior features leather upholstery. The interior is highlighted by gleaming wood trim. Lot's of technological gadgets then completes the car.
One of the new features was 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Previously, all Mercedes-Benz vehicles featured the FR configuration
One of the special versions of the W124 vehicles is the Sportline option. Unlike modern Sport Packages, the Sportline Package extensively upgrades the car including suspension, brakes, lowering ride height, transmission, interior modifications and exterior bodywork+wheels.
Another special vehicle is the 500E. The 500E is built closely in co-operation with Porsche. It was assembled by Porsche along with a specially tuned 5Litre V8 with 4-valves per cylinder. It could reach 100km/h in 5.5 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h.
The W124 chassis was used by Ssang Yong Motor Company to produce the Chairman.
